Meil takes pride in his appearance, ensuring that he is always presentable, even when rolling out of bed. His hair is shoulder-length and wavy to the point of curly. The voluminous locks are often tied back into a bun on his head, to keep them from obscuring beautiful eyes that sit below. Thick, full lips are often found in a smile, even if the eyes are smouldering with anger or lust.
There is almost never a time that Meil isn’t put together. His clothes are often wrinkle-free and form fitting, showing off a slim frame with little musculature. He prefers darker colours, blacks and browns and greys, but is hardly ever monotone. His fashion is as functional as it is fashionable, often showing off his form or enticing the eyes in one way or the other.
Meil is quiet. Some would even say too quiet. He observes the world passively, only interjecting his thoughts when he feel he has something to add. His meekness extends only so far though, and his charisma is based off that mystery in order to draw others in. His voice is somewhat effeminate, so when he speaks, it often cuts through the gruff and loud jeers of the Mugrobi.
He is given to flights of fancy, romanticizing the people and world around him which quite often leads to disappointment. His love for poetry and literature has led to a skewed sense of the real world, though he understands that not all that glitters is gold. He’s an idealist, but pragmatism hides just under the surface.
Meil is also passionate, especially about his music. He chose the viola for its romantic tones, and he channels all his passion and love and energy through the instrument. His fingers often move as if he were playing, as if it were a nervous tick, an unconscious movement that he seldomly notices.
Importantly, Meil’s spirituality often comes into play in his mannerisms and conversations. A devout follower of Hulali, Meil partakes in the rituals of the Mugrobi, even outside the kingdom. When traveling, he carries a small container of dirt and wears a vial of water around his neck to participate in the haras’turga, and many of his songs and lyrics are based around the fish-god and the bounty he brings.
Meil was born to a fisherman and his wife in Tsatsaa, on the banks of the Yun River. As a child, he was exceptionally fussy, crying and demanding attention at all times, which he often did not get. Meil’s father was a boisterous man, a man who valued strength and endurance over the “womanly” pursuits. He wanted Meil to grow into a robust man, a fisherman like him, but Meil had other plans.
As a young child, Meil found that he enjoyed looking at pretty things; the sun rising over the Yun, the way the fish looked swimming in the river… These were things that attracted Meil. He eschewed his duties helping his father clean and gut fish, and rather preferred to interact with the customers who bought the finished product.
At the age of 10, Meil decided he did not want to fish for a living. He kept some of the money his father gave him from helping at the fish stand, and bought his first viola, which he promptly began to learn. He became good, good enough to play in the only tavern in Tsatsaa, and gained a small amount of renown. However, as he became a man, his father demanded he take over the fishing boats, and Meil refused. Disowned and run from their home, Meil found himself on the road, a few meager possessions and his viola his only solace from the cold world. He played for meals, he fucked for beds, and by the time he found himself in Anaxas, he was the jaded and beautiful man he is today.
Firstly a musician, Meil often travels around playing for small donations and food and lodging. This is his passion, though he has found that prostitution and larceny pay bigger dividends. He plays music to mark targets, then sleeps with them and robs them while they sleep.
Income: Poor
With no familal money to rely on, Meil has had to perform and steal his way to a living salary. It doesn’t pay exceptionally well, but he gets by, and happily.
It’s hard to pick up a whole house, so he just travels from inn to inn in search of a place to eat and sleep.
Inventory
A battered cloth sack carries his few meagre possessions:
A few outfits consisting of earth-toned pants, shirts and turtlenecks
Eating utensils
Small bits of paper and an inkwell
A book or two of Mugrobi poetry and literature
Additionally, a heavy hard-leather case carries his viola and bow, and is decorated with symbolic runes regarding Hulali.
The Dry Season encompasses the single, long month of Yaris. and stretches for 80 days instead of consisting of two months of 40 days each. This season runs out-of-character from December 1st, 2021 to February 28, 2022.
Yaris is the hottest season of the year, blowing away summer's lazy humidity with harsh winds and sweltering temperatures. It is usually a season of unrest among the lower races, with riots and uprisings common, and this year, with taut political tensions after a Symvoulio handover to Mugroba for a new ten-year cycle, everyone is on edge.
