A deep groan escapes Cassius’ lips as the rhythmic rattles of bell chimes deprive him of a sleep in. Opening a singular aqua eye to stare at the mechanical marvel that was his skeleton faced alarm clock with its swinging bronze hammer colliding between two silver bells. Reaching over with his large right palm and striking the top to cease its movement another groan escapes his lips. Oh, how he wished he could sleep in, but no, never could he rest when he is both employer and employee. Rolling onto his back, both eyes now open and focused upon the cracked paint on his ceiling for a moment until his hands reached up and began to rub the remnants of sleep away from his face. The harshness of his beard against his flesh causing him to grimace followed by the cotton mouth he had. Swinging his left leg out and onto the rugged floor of his bedroom, right soon following until his entire naked body sat upright only the thin cotton fabric of his bedsheets covering his nether regions.

Taking a moment to adjust to the world of the awake, Cassius brushes away his chocolate tresses away from his face with his left hand before gently slapping his cheek. With a deep breath, the strenuous task of exiting the bed completely lay before him and in protest another dissatisfied groan escaped his lips as he forced himself upright. Looking around for a moment, a soft smile spread across his features as the early morning sunshine caressed his skin bringing with it a gentle warmth. A signifier that summer was here. Taking a deep breath, Cassius stepped through his bedroom and to the right where a small washroom resides. The majority of the bathroom taken by a furnace, a pump and a bath. Opening the furnace and lighting it – still naked – Cassius watched as coals and tinder was swallowed by lashing tongues of flame. Thirty or so minutes later Cassius’ firm rump and muscular legs slide into the depths of his bath full of hot water. A soft sigh escapes his lips as he leans back, head against the rim of the bath. Taking a few minutes to relish in the warmth Cassius spoke calmly.

“Nothing beats a morning bath.”

The words rumble through his chest and past his lips as he took a rough bar of soap and began to wash his body. Muscles easily seen moving beneath his tattooed flesh, eyes closed as he does so. A deep hum soon following as he rhythmically washed himself. Once he was done, conditioner oils were used to clean and soften his chocolate tresses, beard and moustache. All the while his mind was all too consumed with plans for what he needed to work on today. An airship was due in for repairs soon, hopefully they would be a satisfied and returning customer for all services. Beyond that he had some… extracurricular jobs to attend too. However, they wouldn’t be completed until night fell. Returning to the world of the awake, Cassius dunked under the water before rising out seconds later. Now sufficiently washed, he wrapped his lower half with a towel and walked back towards his bedroom and his closet. Opening the double wooden doors to reveal a mirror on the left inside window and a row of tailored suits. Suits he had purchased and then altered himself to fit perfectly. Thinking of his options Cassius took a charcoal three piece off their respective hangers as well as a pair of black socks, cotton briefs and a pressed white shirt. The final pieces of his outfit a dark brown belt with matching square toe brown leather boot and a deep blue with silver spiral tie.
Taking his time to dress, Cassius looked towards his skeleton face clock and smiled softly. He was going to be early today.

“Where did I put my keys?”

He asks himself out loud as he looks about before finding them on the small desk against the wall of his bedroom. Picking them up and pocketing them in his vest pocket beside a silver twist pocket watch, Cassius grasped his coat and walked out of his small house. Being so close to the Airship port in Old Rose meant that he was close to his workshop. Which also meant a short enjoyable walk to and from work each day. Stepping outside, Cassius stopped just outside his door allowing his eyes to adjust to the sudden brightness of outside, before him laid a small garden bed and rusted fence. Stepping past that and onto the cobbled pathway, hands in his pocket Cassius began the short ten-minute walk. He could hear the airships coming and going, the scents here reminiscent of home, but with more beggars and addicts than he had ever seen. Stepping over their often passed out bodies on his way to work, a soft hum flowed from his lips as he continued until the port came into view. A large warehouse third down the left with a swinging cog sign with a large I in the middle came into view. Partitioned to have a store front at right of the warehouse with a large hangar door to the left for airship access that was currently locked. Stepping up to the store front door, the bronze lettering of INVICTUS ENGINEERING shined in the light. Opening the door and stepping inside, Cassius raised the blinds revealing to those who cared to look a multitude of handmade and engineered trinkets, patents and designs. Some for sale, others just there just to show what he was capable of producing. Stepping out the back of the shop, Cassius moved to unlock the large hangar door but not open them. From within fluorescent lights flickered into life alighting a rather vast empty space with only his tools and machinery lining the sides. A unique railing system was installed on the roof accessible by ladders and side walkways that allowed him to harness himself in and work atop the airships if need be.

“Hopefully today should bring me another ship to work on… Hopefully otherwise today will be long and boring.”

Cassius said to himself before stepping back into his office to begin working on what little projects he had left to do.

OLD ROSE| MORNING
Image
It was early.

Okay. It was early-ish.

Lacey sat on the railing of her ship, booted feet swinging too and fro, tricorn perched low on her head as she squinted at the docks just a ways down and across from her. The vantage point was rather spectacular, giving her not only a view of the sea ships that came to port, but the airships also. She held a bottle of rum in one hand, and a piece of salted bream in the other, tilting one way to take a slug of the alcohol before tilting the other way to bite the fish as she watched the world of the Rose made their way around the harbor to start their days work or drink or whoring or gambling. Some might be surprised at how early the blonde was awake, shocked even by her ability to rise from the sheets before midday.

But that would be assuming she went to sleep in the first place.

The piratess had invited all sorts of delightful Brothers aboard her ship, finding herself some unlikely companions after the most eventful trip with Corwynn and his motley crew. They had whittled away the evening in her galley, drinking whatever was on hand and partaking in the most delightful strain of opiate she’d come across in a long while. A few had ended up in her bed, and were still there now no doubt, though Lacey hadn’t participated in the event. She had things on her mind. Bloody flyboys and their bloody not-strings. Cor had set her up well, and whilst there was no relationship between them, Lacey couldn’t help but feel a sense of loyalty to the man. They’d bled together, fought together and slept together, among other things. It was hard to shake the feeling that the pierced creature was feeling…something. Whatever came of it, at least she had some sort of regular income now. Sort of. Not quite a Bad Brother, not quite a freelancing pirate, Lacey straddled her career options as easily as she did a nice firm--

Oh ‘ello. What have we got here then?

Hazel eyes followed a figure as they entered the port, hands in his pockets and chocolate locks resting on broad shoulders, slugging another drunk of the rum and tossing the salted fish into the briny waters below. Grabbing rigging to pull herself to her feet, the tattooed human walked along the railing of her ship, watching the being as he made his way down past the buildings towards a warehouse that appeared to be some sort of shopfront. Reaching the gangplank, Lacey jumped down, trouncing down the beam and thumping onto the wooden docks, short black skirt brushing her thighs as Dragus’ cloak swirled open around her legs. Her top was something between a corset and a vest, laced tightly down the front, and her belts hung heavy at her sides with her pistol and her saber. Making her way down through the fishmongers and spice merchants, stepping across crates and down onto the beams of permanent stall structures, the piratess managed to get to the shop just as Cassius stepped out the back to unlock his hanger. Swigging one last large gulp of rum, the inked creature placed the bottle down beside the front door and entered INVICTUS ENGINEERING.

“Well ain’t that clever…” The handsy woman said as she looked over all the interesting trinkets and gadgets and such, not really understanding most of it, but fascinated none the less. She ran inked fingertips over something with cogs and springs and things that looked like they could turn, quite intent on picking it up for a closer look.

“Hopefully today should bring me another ship to work on… Hopefully otherwise today will be long and boring.”

Grinning at the sound of a rumbling baritone, Lacey Lovell spun on her heel to approach the basic counter that served as a reception of sorts, leaning on her elbows and waiting for the hulking figure to appear from the back doorway.

“Oh see lad, if I had me way, y’day would ne’er be borin’. Long, maybe, but not borin’.” She purred in a voice roughened by sea, smoke, salt and drink. Drawing her lower lip between her teeth, the blonde straightened on her arms, head tilted slightly and eyes dragging over every tall and muscular section of the stranger, before making a sound in the back of her throat.

“By Hulali’s tits, yer a big ‘un! Howsit I ain’t ever seen y’before, Mister…?” She left it hanging, an eyebrow raised in way of question, turning to look out the window with a smirk and a pointed finger.

“I were watchin’ th’ harbor wakin’, from up thare on m’ship, an’ I saw this beast thumping down th’ dock like he were made o’ thunderous seas. An’ I jus’ had t’come an’ take a closer look, aye?” Resting her hands on her hips, Lacey glanced back at him, as though gauging he was still as delicious to look at as he had been a moment ago.

Cassius’ bright crystalline eyes focused on the body of another that had, through all his murmurings to himself entered the shopfront unnoticed. For a moment their seemed shock upon Cassius’ visage as it’s not one of his usual customers and certainly not Corwynn making one of his unannounced visages. There simply was too much breast in that corset and too many tattoos upon her body for it to be Corwynn. The thick stench of sweat, sea brine and rum touched his nostrils and it send an oddly calming serenity down his core. Taking a look at the mechanical Orrey made of copper and silver that was clearly out of place on his shelving for a moment before returning back to the woman. A deep laugh escaped his plump lips as Cassius begun to pull up his sleeves in neat folds revealing beautiful tattoos in dark black and various shades of grey. Looking up at the woman, Cassius spoke calmly.

“Oh really? And why exactly would my day be long? I’m not like the usual runner rats that pilfer the seas.”

The words were said with a smirk and a playful wink in response to her clearly sexual advance. Not one of capable speech with the ladies… or anyone really… Cassius was more the physical, show what you got rather than speak it kind of person which had caused him to many-a-time pick himself from a tavern floor either bruised and battered from a brawl or naked and balls…. Well deeply invested in another person. Leaning over to the wall that his shop counter was attached too and flicking a switch bright phosphorescent lights flicker into life bathing the two of them in bright light. Following that Cassius leant around a corner and unhooked a leather apron that smelt like smoke, oil and burned metal. A soft smile still on his lips as he looked back at the woman.

“I don’t know, I’ve been here for years. Not in this specific shop but I’ve been at old rose at least for ten summers. Perhaps something interesting has kept your eyes elsewhere. I’ve never seen you around here either but then again unless you’re coming looking for me, I’d never know who anyone is until I’m introduced. Name’s Cassius and you are?”

Cassius could feel the woman’s eyes on him and simply drinking him in causing Cassius’ left hand to raise up and scratch at the back of his head slightly before shaking his head, thick chocolate curls spraying around his face before falling back onto his shoulders. A deep thunderous laugh escaped from his lips as he listened to Lacy speak, the woman’s broken pirate speech clear as day to him. Stepping around the shop counter, Cassius stepped close to the woman and bent slightly so he could see the ship she was pointing at. An eyebrow raised slightly as she spoke as if she were a captain of her own ship. A powerful woman if that were the case. Turning slightly to look at her as he laughed and gently placed a hand atop her tri point hat and pushed it down over her eyes. Cassius smelt beautiful a mix of vanilla, woodland woods and spices.

“Well, does the beast look as good up close as it did from afar?”

The words sounded to drift as Cassius stepped into the shop, kicking the door open and propping it open with a piece of metal. The intention was to continue his shop routine while still talking to this bizarre tattooed pirate. Should she follow his voice, Cassius would be found easily grabbing a heavy armful of metal bar that he could put into a contraption called the lathe to which he could turn into cogs and other necessities. The warehouse was massive compared to the shop front. It was filled with various industrial tools and workbenches. Was well lit and yet was vastly empty for the space needed for airships.

“The second question to that is, was coming closer worth it?”

OLD ROSE| MORNING

Hazel eyes dropped to inked arms as the large human rolled up his sleeves, interested in the story behind the tattoos she was only slightly privy to. There was always a story behind the colored markings that folks got, either a deep and meaningful one, or a hilarious one. Either way, it was usually fun to explore. The pirate smirked to herself, wondering how far they went under pesky clothing, before glancing up at the rakish face that was looking at her with clear bemusement.

“What, ye mean that ye can last, or d’ye mean that ye are a bit…uh…quick on th’ draw. If ye know what I mean matey. Eitherway, ol’ Lacey can think o’plenty o’jobs t’ keep ye busy all day. All night too should y’ be able to keep up.” The devious blonde chuckled, reaching without care or permission to squeeze a bicep, an impressed sound escaping her before she pointed out the ship. Her eyes scanned back to Cassius, following him as he moved around the bench.

“Ten years y’say? Aye, well, t’be fair I ain’t usually drydocked f’so long as t’get entirely cosy with th’ locals. Well, cosy, but not ’oh ye own a shop?’ cosy.” Grinning, the pierced creature made a flourishing bow to the man, keeping her eyes on him as she did.

“Lacey Lovell, Cap’n o’ The Laced Lady an’ bane o’ th’ seas, at ye service Cassius.” Straightening as the brunette came closer to rather theatrically lean down and look for her ship, Lacey leaned one hand on the counter and kept one hand on her cocked hip, shameless in her continued examination of the attractive man. His great maw came to rest suddenly on her hat, pushing it down with a wafting of delicious scents. The dreadlocked woman tsked, grabbing the tricorn with both hands to readjust it as she trounced after the hulking being.

“Oh aye, better even t’be honest. Though t’would be much better t’assess that between me sheets.” Following Cassius, she threw him a wink, before whistling softly as he shifted the metal like it was firewood. Looking around the shop with a keen eye, the shorter human showed a genuine interest in the man that wasn’t purely carnal.

Well. Mostly.

“Worth it? Aye well that depends on y’self, Beast. Sometimes jus’ because somethin’ looks tasty, doesn’t always mean it is.” Biting her lower lip and containing the rest of her wicked grin, the pirate looked him over as the cogs in her mind turned.

“What’s all this then?” Lacey asked bluntly, a thumb hooked in one of her belts, the other hand waving around in the air to indicate the shop itself. Her feet moved, walking around whether she was invited or not, hazel eyes squinting at the large space. There were things here that looked familiar, things that Dragus had installed on the ship that gave her an edge in the water, and things that she had no clocking idea what they were.

“Y’a flyboy too lad? This is a lot o’ space, an’ ye too far from th’ water for this t’be f’ships o’th’ water.” It was a loaded question, the blonde already casting her mind between what she saw and what she had. Perhaps finding her way down here this morning would be more than just a delightful attempt to bed such a delicious prize.

Or not. Either way, Lacey didn’t mind. Booty or business, much of a muchness.
