Relationships: Cai Wiscombe works almost exclusively for Benton Borteillo who, though he won’t admit it, considers Cai to be the only ‘family’ he has left. The two met as a 17-year-old Cai reached out to buy from Benton. Benton, however, didn’t immediately oblige, instead preferring to keep the kid, who reminds him distinctly of his younger brother, clean and safe. Cai is one of the very few people in Benton’s inner circle, one of the very few allowed to know him as Benton, not EON. Cai trusts Benton deeply.
Physical Description

Mordecai is most notably young. He is 5'7", and no scruff darkens his chin, lip, or jaw. His skin is an unmarred beige canvas stretched across the sharp angles of his jaw and cheekbones. On both sides of his face, a dark scar connects the corner of his outer eye to the corner of his mouth, a mark of the Lost Moon. His hair curls like a spiralled ink and sticks out at odd angles around his head, and his cocoa eyes are hooded by dark brows.

Cai is thin and small, but undoubtedly quick and resilient. There's little width to his chest or diameter to his long arms and limbs. His hands and feet are long and thin. Much of Cai's bare chest is often visible even beneath his clothes. He is fond of reds, blues, purples, pinks, yellows, and browns, typically a hodgepodge of hand-me-downs sewn together in some odd, gypsy fashion. He's also fond of beads, necklaces, and perfumes.

Personality

Mordecai's puerile demeanour is apparent to even a man blind to his young features. He has not yet learned to quell his emotions- he succumbs to his anger, fear, and sadness too easily, and his upsets lead him to trouble and poor choices. He is ever-so-gullible, ever-so-naive. Mordecai speaks in his simple Tek, and he can often miss the cues of sarcasm and deceit. He takes very few things seriously and claims that he'll be the one to die some tragic death with a smile on his face and a laugh still echoing in the air. Those Mordecai trusts find an undying ally that does not question anything anyone says; yet, he is slow to fall so deeply into this trust. He is polite and holds respect for many of his elders. He is, to paint a trope, the young soldier who is loyal, optimistic, and unaware of the darkness of war until it breaks him.

Mordecai has not yet been contaminated by the cynicism that fuels Benton. Cai does not want to kill or hurt, and he wants to help humans, wicks, and passives find their places not below the galdor, but among. He believes that the galdor can be overcome. He likes to live comfortably, but will begrudgingly give what he can to those who may need it. He is not by any means selfless, and he'd only sacrifice himself those he trusts like Benton and, despite leaving them, his tribe.

Inherently lighthearted, Cai spends many nights partying with Old Rose's tyats and the low-lifes of Anaxas. He fears death and solitude, and he longs for a permanent home and permanent family. He understands that Benton is not the best person, but he knows Benton as family and Benton's home as a home, with a father, maybe.
Past & Present History

Cai was born and raised by two Anaxi wicks in the Lost Moon tribe in 2700. Horse breeders by heritage, the tribe spent their time following their horses, never staying still for more than a week at a time. It was the perfect life for a nomad. Cai was as close with his tribe as one would expect, alone with only his tribe in the wind-swept and lonely plains of the North. He enjoyed running with the stilt-legged colts and brushing the leaves out of their manes, rolling in the grass and weeds and low yellow and white flowers with Ceden, the child closest to his age in the faction, and learning the basic wick arts and skills from his parents. It was a happy childhood, but not a content one. Beyond the Southern horizon, across the winded plains, was a world completely different from his own.

There were cities beyond those hills. Cities that the elders recited their distrust of, cities where the horses were beaten and worked until they collapsed, cities of stone and dirt but no grass or flowers, and Cai wanted to go. He wanted a home in the city, a house made of brick and wood and glass that he could live in as long as he wanted. He wanted a permanent home. At 17, Cai made the choice to leave. His family begged him not too, but Cai was set in his way. He needed to see the world and be in control of where he was. He was still deeply in love and loyalty with his clan, thus promising to return yearly like a child from school, and his family begrudgingly obliged, hoping he would change his mind and return, that one escapade would teach him that the world outside was terrible. An elder escorted him to Bad Aisling, and from there Cai kept moving, kept searching for home. He moved to Vienda, then down river past Brunnhold, past Numbrey, and finally to Old Rose.

In Old Rose, Cai found himself tied up with the tyats of Old Rose. The parties, the drugs, the care-free life, and the non-nomadic living was attractive to Benton at least for a few weeks in Old Rose. Yet, to live like that everyday for the rest of his life was frightening. He had no one else, though, and followed along, followed along until one night the tyats sent him off to buy their drugs. In this he found Benton, and Benton found him.

Family, somehow. This human that was a terrible person that wanted to keep Cai on the straight and narrow was somehow family, somehow had a home for him. Today, Cai works with Benton in return for a home and food, though his pretty sure he’d get the care regardless.
