Physical Appearance
Moonshadow and stardust, glitter and kohl.
on the surface
If there is a single word that can best summarize Xavier, it would be a mistake to assume that word was delicate. Handsome. Pretty. Glamorous. These words would be Xav's preference to hear when describing their person, and they go to have no qualms about correcting anyone who says otherwise. The Gioran is short for their kind, a mere 6'2", though one may say the mixed heritage of both human and galdor origins might have something to do with it. A true albino with violet eyes, it isn't very often the wick doesn't have some hint of color in their long hair in the form of dye or feathers or braids or glass baubles or beads, and they are always decorated with just a bit more color on their round, well-carved face in the form of colored kohl or glitter. They are lithe and graceful, but solid. Travel and survival have granted the pale wick a wiry muscle that has not marred their softness so much as defined shape.

Xavier has no preference when it comes to dress so long as it is well-made, comfortable, and beautiful, drawing fashion inspiration from any and all cultures that catch their interest, although silver jewelry, muted or dark colors accented by something bright and unexpected, and a very genderless flair tend to be the musician's leanings. More often than not mistaken for female, Xav cares little to correct such assumptions, considering them shallow mistakes made merely on their mannerisms or choice of color for that day.

Being albino does have its physical limitations and Xavier's pale skin and eyes are very sensitive to the sun, requiring them to dress accordingly when in places like Mugroba or out during the hottest, brightest days of summer anywhere in the Six Kingdoms. A hood, a hat, or simply sleeping until the sun sets are typical and acceptable strategies. Both ears are pierced multiple times and the Gioiran prefers earrings that dangle.

Personality
Don't tell me the moon is shining;
show me the glint of light on broken glass.
beneath it all
Xavier has been accused of being a petulant creature more than once in their adult life. Though they more often than not come across as shallow and self-serving, this is hardly the case. Creative, passionate, brooding, loud, sarcastic, unapologetic, ostentatious, tempestuous and so very far from the expected stoicism imposed by their homeland of Gior, the albino wick is literally their own person who gives zero fucks about conforming to the shape they were poured into, be it physical or social. While the albino wick would never admit it, they have a bit of a problem with personal property and boundaries: borrowing and outright stealing what isn't theirs when it suits them and having no concept of keeping their hands to themselves in the first place. This is usually not well received and Xav has found themselves in trouble more often than they care to recount.

Hungry to chase the muse of their own restless, musical talents, Xav moves through people and places, sights and sounds, experiences and expeditions as if needing to consume them, processing everything through getting directly involved, be it with their hands or their voice. Even when not appearing to listen, chances are, the wick has heard you and already processed their response.

Despite their often intense personality, Xavier has a very deep and unspoken faith in the Circle, whose gods and goddesses they often seek unusual and unique ways to glorify.

say what you will
The Gioran is neither a galdor nor a human, the product of an illicit union of both, and Xav considers themselves neither male nor female, choosing instead to identify in modern terms as nonbinary and pansexual. Xavier will answer to either pronoun or neither, completely nonplussed by assumptions made on their person, far more content with attention than a particular label. Aware that this often causes social confusion and mental friction with many of the Six Kingdoms, the albino wick tends to save their more expressive feminine side for performances than practical, everyday interactions. Insatiable curiosity borders on hedonism, though the musician happens to possess a rather surprising level of self control as tempered by their theatrical talent for playing the role in the moment almost literally by the seat of their metaphorical pants.

prone to trouble
ESTP personality types always have an impact on their immediate surroundings – the best way to spot them at a party is to look for the whirling eddy of people flitting about them as they move from group to group. Laughing and entertaining with a blunt and earthy humor, ESTP personalities love to be the center of attention. If an audience member is asked to come on stage, ESTPs volunteer – or volunteer a shy friend.

Theory, abstract concepts and plodding discussions about global issues and their implications don’t keep ESTPs interested for long. ESTPs keep their conversation energetic, with a good dose of intelligence, but they like to talk about what is – or better yet, to just go out and do it. ESTPs leap before they look, fixing their mistakes as they go, rather than sitting idle, preparing contingencies and escape clauses.

ESTPs are the likeliest personality type to make a lifestyle of risky behavior. They live in the moment and dive into the action – they are the eye of the storm. People with the ESTP personality type enjoy drama, passion, and pleasure, not for emotional thrills, but because it’s so stimulating to their logical minds. They are forced to make critical decisions based on factual, immediate reality in a process of rapid-fire rational stimulus response.

ESTPs are full of passion and energy, complemented by a rational, if sometimes distracted, mind. Inspiring, convincing and colorful, they are natural group leaders, pulling everyone along the path less traveled, bringing life and excitement everywhere they go. Putting these qualities to a constructive and rewarding end is ESTPs’ true challenge.

opinionated? nah.
Xavier has a unique view on the races of Vita—born of an illicit but strangely blessed union of a Gioran passive and a human, raised by humans, betrayed by galdori, and given into the hands of a motley, mixed-race crew of rather crafty merchants, they have never known nor understood the status quo. Fully embracing a wild, wick lifestyle and not desiring to be beholden to any one authority, regardless of race, Xav prefers to give individuals their opportunity to define themselves in their life, reacting accordingly.

The wick is far more trusting of humans, of passives, and of other tekaa than they are of galdori upon first meeting, but the truth of the matter is they have no problem picking anyone's pockets if they feel the need to do so. They are an equal opportunity larcenist, and as a musician are more than happy to receive coin from any hand for performances.[/googlefonts]

History
Everyone is a moon,
and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.
the first verse
Xavier's memories of their mother are few—tall, lithe, lovely, and passive. Vrekath was a Priestess of Imaan, sent forth from the sanctuary of Qrieth on her twentieth birthday with prayer and quartz dust, marked for her sacred journey into the unknown, her expected service as a magicless devotee of the Eternal Child. The world outside of the mountain was harsh, terrible, and cold. The young woman, shocked at how her own people did not prepare her for such a dangerous journey, soon found herself in the valleys, starving and tired. Humanity dwelled in the shadows of her lofty birthplace, and perhaps had the albino woman had a field, she would have never survived her first meeting with the band of hunters who found her scavenging their traps, desperate for food.

As awed by her beauty and charmed by her etherial spirituality as she was disgusted by their ignorance and worried about their supposed brutality, the passive and the humans forged an unlikely trust. Vrekath spoke of Imaan and taught the hunters how to cultivate an inner life, and the hunters listened and taught her how to live off the land. Days became weeks, weeks became months. The seasons turned and not only had the child of galdori become comfortable living among savages, but she fell in love with one—Xav'ak, son of the village's chief took the graceful, delicate passive as his wife without question and no one objected.

Her spiritual journey having taken an unexpected but not at all unwelcome turn, the pair welcomed their first child just four years after her exile: Xavier was born in the snow of spring, loud and needy. A beautiful child, the boy grew up among hunters and warriors, all the while finding himself into mischief and singing his prayers, much to his parents' chagrin.

the bridge
It was as Xavier approached his eleventh birthday that his doting parents—who had tried three times to give him willowy, wild siblings in that decade since his birth only to lose them all—began to worry for his half-bred nature. Feral and free-spirited, the boy was coming of age surrounded by people who couldn't understand nor direct his magical abilities in any way, shape, or form, who didn't even know if he had any to begin with. What if, his mother worried, what if she was robbing him of something he deserved to learn?

His human peers began to fear him, afraid of his half-galdori heritage, afraid of the possibility of magic they didn't know anything about accidentally happening at his whim. His mother began to worry for Xavier's safety, though she was helpless to teach him a single line of Monite. The difficult decision was made to send him away, terrified that as he grew, his connection to the mona would bring harm to the humans who had welcomed the once Priestess, would bring harm to the beautiful passive as well. As if made suddenly aware that it was time for her journey to begin anew, it was Vrekath who volunteered to take her son far from the village, back up the mountains, and pray that Imaan himself would offer sanctuary to her beloved child despite his scandalous origins. Perhaps, somewhere in her mind and heart, she longed to pretend he was a galdor and fool her own people in the hopes of keeping him safe.

The climb to Qrieth was treacherous and long, but mother and son looked out for each other, Xavier a fierce, flamboyant youth who feared not the darkness nor the hungry creatures that threatened them in the wilds. The warm reception she'd hoped for had perhaps always been a lie, and when the pair arrived in the Temple City, the Eternal Child must have surely looked away.

Nearly denied at the gates, it was only through pleas for mercy that the pair were allowed into the mountain, to walk among the sacred carved hallways, to be gawked at by pale, statuesque giants with fields so strong that young Xavier was sure he would drown in them. Was Vrekath's name remembered in the prayers? Did she have family willing to welcome her home? Did anyone rejoice in the willowy beauty of her precious child?

No.

An anathema. A scandal. A betrayal of the Gioran faith, their lives were threatened, her sacred status revoked, and the disgusting half-breed of a child taken from her, terrified and shouting her name.

the chorus
Death would have perhaps been too merciful for the albino wick, and in order to keep up the claim that there were, in fact, absolutely no such bastards in all of Gior, Xavier was sold to the first merchants that would take him—some petty sum of coins handed to his grieving, betrayed mother before she was turned back out into the wilderness to watch the airship with her only child in it disappear into the clouds on its way to the Kingdom of Bastia.

Did Vrekath make it back to her husband? Did the humans who'd loved them both miss the wild little boy she'd brought into the world among them?

Xavier to this day doesn't know the answers, for in the years that passed, the name of the village of their birth was worn away by new names of new ports and new people and new things until his origins had faded into a memory far more pale than their own colorless skin, a shadow cast by the faint light of Benea's gibbous. Put to work from one airship to the next until a series of unfortunate events in the skies over Mugroba shoved the lanky teenager found into the calloused hands of pirates instead of legitimate merchants, Xavier grew up alongside the crew who'd more or less rescued him. The albino wick was taught to read, to write, to navigate, to appraise trade goods, and to barter all also being taught to pilfer pockets, to pick locks, to read faces, to con strangers, and to use Spoke magic right out of the trusty Almanac. The rough-around-the-edges crew became family, begrudgingly at first, and the life of a swearing, drinking, dangerously-living pirate of the clouds suited the graceful, flamboyant creature far more comfortably than they'd ever admit, especially considering it didn't take long to realize just how much they didn't quite fit in anywhere else.

Civil, polite society didn't quite know what to do with the Gioran, and for a few years, the wick wasn't quite sure what to do with themselves either.

Xavier never grew into the strapping young lad that was expected of a boy child, willowy and lithe, dexterous and graceful. No one who knew the youth would ever have described them as ruggedly handsome so much as etherial and pretty, and the wick would never have complained either way. In their need to define themselves and find their own form of expression, Xav often found themselves on the side of not masculine, much to the chagrin of their peers' cultural experiences and expectations.

Xav kept singing, learned to play a few instruments, and eventually bought their freedom in a rather unexpectedly large winning from a game of Rooks in Florne, drunk out of his mind and totally willing to tip the handsome loser who was once their Captain with a tumble between the sheets as a final farewell. Homeless, jobless, and clockin' missing the skies, Xavier has big dreams and the hunger to accomplish them, so long as he can find a bit of help along the way.

Shiny Things
Can you own the stars?
Do the moons have a price?
career & income

Occupation

Xavier is a performer: musical and theatrical, but their acts are often a ruse while they look for the next big score to pilfer from a pocket or burgle from a storefront. Not quite a kleptomaniac so much as a very calculated value specialist, the albino wick knows true treasure when they see it and has enough temperance to know when to leave well enough alone. They are skilled at the accordion, the harmonium, and can sing at a very flexible, if not masculine, range. Xav can also pick locks and pockets, among other thieving skills.

Income: Poor

While Xav loves expensive things and often finds ways to score them on their own, they have a lot of trouble holding onto any cash they manage to find themselves with, spending it on whatever catches their fancy in that particular moment.

housing & inventory

Housing: Vagrant

Xav has no permanent home, hopping from bed to bed or inn to inn or wherever they can manage to sleep.

Inventory

A large leather rucksack contains the current pathetic sum total of Xavier's restless life:

a set of decent lockpicks
a set of chisels
a compass
a crowbar
a saw
a hand lantern
a glasscutter
1 cup
1 knife
1 fork
1 chipped old plate
a bit of rope
a waterskin
various makeup
a small mirror
bejeweled baubles
assortment of clothes
hooded wool overcoat
bowler hat*
accidental treasures

* This lovely hat contains two secret inner pockets and has a shiny black feather tucked into it.

In addition to these, the musician owns a well-crafted oud affectionately named Gertrude, made of dark black wood and inlaid with mother of pearl constellations and both Benea and Osa as full moons. The woven strap is lavender and silver thread.
