1st of Intas, 2719
Kingdom of Anaxas | Evening
O bright Anaxas,
tremble we before thee
glorious kingdom,
this we pray:

O dear Anaxas,
never let the night fall,
Our goddess, keep the
dark at bay.

Lead us through valleys,
mist and mountains mighty
over the Tors and
forest deep

Though there be demons
growling at our doorstep
Lend us your light, our
souls to keep.

Anaxi National Anthem
Anti-Anaxi AnthemShow
O dark Anaxas,
tremble we before thee.
ruled now by tyrants
cold and gray

O dear Anaxas
deliver us from nightfall
Out from the shadows,
to the day.

Lead us through valleys,
mist and mountains mighty
over the Tors and
forest deep

Though there be demons
growling at our doorstep
Lend us your light, our
spirits keep.
It was a beautiful, crisp, cold winter's night for the first day of the new year, 2719. Snow had held off most of the day over Anaxas, hanging heavy as a thick grey blanket across the wide open sky, though as the sun set over the mountains and night began to creep in thick fat flakes began to fall. The heavy blizzard from the 40th of Ophus had left quite the slurry and icy wetness on the ground, refreezing as sheet ice as the snows began to fall. It was freezing, but the cold of the night had never stopped the peoples of Anaxas celebrating it before. During the day, the traditional bathing of the Elders and newborns was held across Anaxas, with much formality and religious pomp from the Everine.

However, as evening came, the religious undertones disappeared to make way for the more secular celebrations.

Naturally, the heart of Vienda was where the largest of the festivities had collected. The city council had spent two full days preparing for the event, hanging lanterns of colorful phosphor and setting up large, heavy braziers right in the thick of Crosstown Court. Long tables filled with food and drink were placed strategically around the outside and writ holding wicks were invited to set up stalls to sell their wares. A stage was set up, to allow a variety of musicians to play their music from varied parts of the Kingdom. Galdori, wicks and even humans mingled together amongst the lantern light and danced on the cobblestones carefully cleared of snow and ice. Perhaps hidden among them were even a handful of passives, but what no one pointed out, no one needed to think to hard on, either. People drank and laughed, and occasionally some of the skilled magic users would let of a fantastical display of bright sky-light shows. Wicks entertained themselves and others with tricks and acrobatics, whilst galdori made fools of themselves with light hearted duels.

The highlight of the evening, of course, were the fireworks. Set off over the Arova on boats, reflected off the ice and the still, dark water, the magically-enhanced show was the crowning glory of the welcoming of the new year. Old songs were sung, especially the Anaxi anthem, and while the Queen was notably absent, there was just enough alcohol served all night to dull the worry for her health while the Everine said their final blessings before dismissing the crowds to go home.

Across the country, in the warmth of Brunnhold’s great hall, the professors and students who hadn’t left the Campus during the holidays celebrated the new year with a gloriously formal red-tie event. A rather lavish dinner was held, and the school's senior band members who had stayed behind over Winter Break for just this purpose played a score of classical, well-loved music that could be listened to over quiet conversation or if the mood caught anyone, they could move to the polished wooden floor to dance under the warm glow of the crystal chandeliers. Wine was shared, even with some of the minors provided they didn’t tell their parents, and duels were played on with worshipful observance the lawn.

The most important part of the Clock's Evening for Brunnhold was of course the very beautiful and sombre ceremony in the Church of the Moon, led by the most esteemed upper ranks of the Everine. The most beloved of moonsongs to Alioe rang through all of the ancient, red-walled fortress and into the cloudy night, every plumb guttered galdor in attendance singing along with reverence to not just their patron goddess but all the Circle in thanksgiving for the year that had passed and grateful anticipation of the year forthcoming.

Some of the older students still managed to escape the campus formalities, crawling away in irreverent joy to hold their own festivities in the Stacks, a far more loud and rambunctious affair with a lot of alcohol and loud music and declarations of love.

Those who weren't galdori, such as the wicks and humans who kept the Stacks alive, filled the streets off campus with lanterns and musicians, games and small fire pits. Entire streets were turned into celebratory sections of town, and even when a few galdori students or some unexpected passive wandered through, no one seemed to mind.

In the depths of Old Rose Harbour, the festivities were far more widespread—Clock's Eve was a day (and night) of peace among cut-throat enemies, rival gangs, and seedy pirates. Everyone put down their arms to pick up drinks and song, and Silas Hawke himself declared the streets safe from his balcony that overlooked so much of the city in the Palace. There was no central location to welcome in the new year, instead all the taverns were full and bright and loud, the streets were full of fires and lanterns and whores, and even ships were decorated and taken out to the Harbor for celebrations on the open water. There were both fireworks and firearms, loud and bright and dangerous.

Laughter and music filled the air, tinged with the occasional misunderstanding. Guns were put away and swords sheathed, a sort of truce falling over the city for the night. Some thought it bad luck to kill another on Clock’s Eve, and others didn’t want to risk that being true. The Mad Queen put on a spectacular show, full of dancing tumbles and lots of ale, whilst in the Rose Arena the fighting was between banderwolves instead of people. Coin fell and ale ran. Pirates and residents alike set up pavilions and makeshift covers on the beach, and a huge unruly and probably dangerous bonfire burned brightly on the sand. Music played and dancers danced, a chaotic free mess of life without law. Of course, everyone knew realistically who the law was in the Rose, but Hawke and his Brothers were just as happy to enjoy the evening as the rest of the Rose occupants.

Tonight, everyone celebrated as equals, worshiping Alioe in their own special ways. Tonight, temporary friendships were made.

Tomorrow, the world turned, as it always did.
