Physical Description

Elspeth is a small one, her height only 5’2”, and she generally lacks grandeur. She is notoriously demure, unassuming, often slouching her shoulders forward and keeping her eyes to the ground. Her skin tone is pale, somewhat decorated with freckles, and her hair is naturally a golden blonde. Her eyes are a muted hazel, a seemingly simple shade of brown, with the slightest hint of green,

When Elspeth was around sixteen, she took a pair of sheers to her hair and cut it short, an almost uncontrollable urge that had to be satisfied. Her mother, horrified, told her that she could have kept it up in a ponytail or a sensible bun. Her response: “It would have only been sensible to you, mother.” Since then, she has kept her hair short and tight, never letting it grow past her ears or eyebrows. The simple explanation for this was her own preference, and her annoyance toward the feeling of hair brushing against her shoulders.

Ultimately, she has lead a life of general ease, therefore has no markings or scars, but she does wear a notable pair of round, thin framed glasses. Without them, she’s fairly impaired. Aside from her short hair, Elspeth generally tries her best to conform to what is expected of her by society in terms of what she wears. She is almost always seen wearing whites and pastels, notably lavender and pinks. She avoids pants, as is customary, but also hate stuffy things like corsets and piles of fabric; she tends toward simpler pinafore dresses, with white silk blouses or thick sweaters underneath. When she is working, she wears a full outfit apt for a gardener, and she wears it with pride.

Her expressions are pensive, thoughtful, and understanding. She smiles at times, and it’s a smile worth seeing.

Personality

Elspeth is quieter than most, but also more brave. She keeps to herself, and proudly stands for what she believes in. As a general rule, she does not like to keep male company, finding them to be all too demanding, rude, assuming, forceful…. After being emancipated from her parents, she has worked hard in her greenhouse, establishing a rather respected business in Uptown Vienda. She is known for welcoming all types of people into her shop; tallies are tallies, and what does she care if they come from a human? She tends to at least respect all life, although she still finds herself wary of humans. She favors wicks more, finding them curious and somewhat fascinating, although she sees them much less often. She quietly believes humans and wicks should be elevated in society, finding the way they are generally treated by the galdori difficult to stomach. She does think of them as lesser in some ways, but realizes that it isn't their fault.

Elspeth only has romantic interest in other women.

Backstory

Elspeth grew up in Uptown Vienda with both of her parents, Gawaine and Elda, and her older sister, Elsie. She was gifted from a young age, testing into Brunnhold with top marks, much to her parents’ approval. She studied dutifully, enjoying school life and finding a particular interest in biology and other sciences. In her teen years, she was gifted a delicate orchid from her aunt, and subsequently fell in love. She cared for the plant like she had never cared for anything before, and this sparked a life-long passion in her. She quickly took to studying Living Conversations, developing a spiritual affinity to the subject. She used her intimate knowledge to encourage and nurture her growing plant collection, treating them with care and thanking the mona regularly for their assistance with it.

But her affinity and fondness of working in the dirt was not shared by her parents, especially her father, Gawaine. Elda was somewhat more understanding, but ultimately stood firmly by her husband. They had expected her to follow in Gawaine’s footsteps and work her way up through the political realm in Anaxas, where he himself was a well established and respected judge. She stood her ground, insisting that she would be miserable, they damn-near cut her off.

In the years since, she has established her own shop of sorts, a greenhouse by the name of “Willow’s Rest,” naming it after her niece, Willow. Her sister, Elsie, kept close with Elspeth, often visiting and letting Willow run around the greenhouse, keeping Elspeth up-to-date on all the latest family drama. Secretly it pained Elspeth to hear about it all, as she did miss her parents. She hopes to one day soon reunite with them.

A few years into owning her greenhouse, she came into possession of a tsat servant by the name of Levee. She was wandering through the Dives one evening, mostly out of curiosity, and stumbled upon a woman. She was sitting in on the ground outside of what looked to be a tavern, obviously destitute. Elspeth stopped, asking if the woman was alright, and she immediately produced her papers, saying she was legal, then let out a horrid cough. After spending some time with her, she convinced the witch to go back to her home in Uptown Vienda, where she helped to nurse her back to health. After a week or so, she asked Levee if she would like to stay with her and work under Elspeth. Levee kindly agreed.

Since then, they have grown rather close, a relationship that Elspeth is indeed puzzled by. Not quite friends, but also not exactly the kind of relationship you would see between a typical galdor and wick—it is more nuanced than the harsh boundaries set between a servant and master.
