Physical Description

Image

Standing at a diminutive 5’1’’, there is little to differentiate Eve from any other Anaxan-born Galdori. She is narrow-shouldered, pale and slight, with the typical high cheekbones and almond-shaped eyes common to her kind.

Her hair is coppery red, carrying a definite curl and a tendency to frizz. Were she to wear it loose it would reach to her mid back, but for the sake of practicality and a healthy sense of self-preservation, she keeps it braided up and away from her face. Her eyes are lifeless, dull and as blue as her pinafore dress.

Diablerie:
Though it has never manifested itself, Eve’s diablerie is one of heat. Searing, and uncontrolled, its effect would cause catastrophic damage to all within a thirty-foot radius; vaporising liquid, melting steel, and causing most organic material to burst into flames. Level-headed and resilient, she believes this is the reason her diablerie has never materialised.

Personality

Image

Eve is a nameless, faceless servant indentured to the academics at Brunnhold. Outwardly meek, polite and dull, she is competent but not overly so, and works hard to avoid drawing attention to herself. For a peaceful life under the thumb of the Galdori you must be invisible, and this is what she strives to become.

Genevieve is another kettle of fish. She is careful to keep the camaraderie of other passives at arm’s length; never outwardly malicious, nor overly helpful. But when the opportunity presents itself she is not above small acts of defiance, especially if the outcome collectively benefits her or those like her.

Inwardly, she has a vivid imagination, and is somewhat softer than she acts. She loves to read, though she can scarcely remember the last time she got her hands on a text or found the time to explore it. She takes joy in simple things; the warmth of the sun or the secret pleasure of turning leaves. She has a definite sweet tooth. Remnants of a gentler time.

Though her eyes are wide open to the difficulties endured by her kin, her knowledge of that which lies beyond Brunnhold and the Stacks is sorely lacking. She holds many preconceived ideas about the way of the world. She yearns for the kind of acceptance and community one can find among the Wicks, yet the Galdori have taught her such ill-bred people are not to be trusted. The strength and bravado of humans frighten her, and what rumours she hears of a resistance are quickly dismissed with a scoff, only to be poured over at length during private moments.

As for the Galdori, she is tormented by the dichotomy of having been raised as one of their own before being discovered as unworthy; disowned and treated as other. She affords her masters the respect they demand, though not without quiet resentment for the way she, and the other passives are treated. She is not afraid of pain, but she dreads the isolation and darkness of solitary confinement.

Backstory

Were you to sit Eve down and ask her to tell you her history, the tale would be riddled with holes and half-invented fantasies. The truth is the girl has repressed much of her childhood; it is the manner by which she has come to terms with all that has happened.

Genevieve Aurelia De Castellane was born into well-regarded family. Not the most affluent in Anaxas, but certainly longstanding and considered to produce Galdori of exceptional personage. This prestigious background holds no bearing on the Genevieve of today, save for producing a little girl entirely unequipped to deal with the harsh realities of her condition. After her test yielded no results she was swiftly given up to Brunnhold; both mother and father severing all ties with the child they had doted on for ten years. Today they behave as if she never existed, and for Genevieve, Viktor and Anais De Castellane live as snatched and fragmented memories she does her best to forget.

At Brunnhold, the young girl was quick to learn the rules of servitude. Speak only when spoken to; your answers kept simple, and direct. Keep out of sight unless you are summoned, and ensure you are presentable, though never in such a way as to outshine your superiors. Her fear of retribution soon grew a thick skin of resilience alongside the calluses of toil. Her sadness soured and hardened into apathy. She found empathy and a certain grim camaraderie amongst the other girls at the university, but nothing she would consider true friendship.

Career and Income

Occupation

Eve is a general domestic servant, whose duties are catch-all and entail the kind of work required to keep Brunnhold clean and tidy. She is able to make basic repairs to clothing and is capable with the typical kitchen drudgery such as peeling vegetables, washing pots and scrubbing floors.

Income: Servitude

As a passive in Brunnhold, Eve earns no income. What things she acquires are given to her by her superiors.

Housing and Inventory

Housing: Servitude

Eve sleeps in a dormitory with another female passive; an older girl whom she considers a confidante and ally. During the day they do not speak to one another, but often exchange whispers and share secrets in the dark of night.

Inventory

Eve has no possessions to call her own; clothing, food and shelter being provided courtesy of Brunnhold in exchange for her obedience, hard work and unwavering loyalty.

Goals

Her wildest dream is to escape Brunnhold and carve a life for herself amongst a community that welcomes and accepts her. Acknowledging this is a childish fantasy she clings to for comfort, her more mature and practical mind recognises that she can at least help the other passives where she can and keep her eyes and ears open for opportunity.
