Del is any face in the dirty crowd. She’s willowy 5’7” and though lean still weighs 140 lbs with solid muscles. She tends towards bunking tradition, keeping her hair long and unbound and wearing workman's trousers. Catching her leaning against the docks or against a tavern in the morning, is not an uncommon occurrence. The young Bad Brother spends a fair amount of time just watching the populace. There’s something to be said for being seen, if it's by the right people.

On the occasion that she’s working, she’ll generally have a wide leather belt strapped across her hips boasting loops and supporting machinist’s tools. There’s more often than not a number of a chipped and nicked daggers hidden on her person. Del often smells of iron and sweat, and has made little to no attempt to ever smell more like a lady.
Personality
“As I see it, you pay the King’s tax today or you pay twice tomorrow.”

Del is born and bred to the life of crime, and she’d have it no other way. If she’s not working, there’s always time for a good time. If there’s a laugh to be had or a penny to be made she’s up for the gamble. However, both loyalty and respect are two topics Del never finds humor for.

She can be easily goaded to anger, though she consciously attempts to check this. Her mistakes multiple when her anger gets the reins and she’s still trying to carve out a secure place for herself within the Bad Brothers, so any mistake could be one too many.

For Leisure and work, she enjoys taking things apart to better understand how they tick. When she’s got her basics paid for a month, she’ll accept work for small pieces of machinery to pry apart. On the other hand, collecting the King’s taxes is her main occupation, for which she accepts no trades or compromise. Lacking the bulk and menace of a more conventional taxman, Del falls back on her skills. She works areas where the Bad Brothers have held power for longer than she’s been alive, and so it’s a rare day she needs more coercion than her presence. When she does need to be persuasive however, she avoids calling on bigger muscle at all costs, instead she uses her knowledge. If someone wants to renege on their deal, she returns during the night causing damage to any machinery or vital component to their business. In the morning, she comes for the taxes and also offers her repair services, for a fee.

Backstory
“I’ve seen the endless horizon, have you?”

Image
The future Bad Brother was born beneath of the deck of the Undertow, a rivertrader’s boat refit into a coastal sloop. Her mother was Captain Bethsaida, a buxom tawny Basti and former-rivertrader turned smuggler. The father, nowhere to be seen, was known in Old Rose Harbor as Rafe with a slew of surnames each as likely as the last. The babe was named Cordelia for the Captain’s mother and Undertow for her origin.

Spending her youngest years on the ocean gave Del a profound respect for the ocean, however in her sixth year the Undertow began undertaking more dangerous smuggler operations. Bethsaida realizing it was no place for a child any longer, hired several whores to go and entrap Rafe. It took nearly half a season to catch the now silvered fox, but the Captain’s patience paid off. Cordelia was thrust upon her father who came to see a use for the child other than prostitution.

Within just a few tendays Del had become an adept look out. Beneath the noses of many she watched or scouted jobs for Rafe. The suave cheat was always running some scheme or another and they often escaped disaster by the thinnest of hairs.

At ten, Del began to watch the flow of people more carefully. Their marks were thoughtfully picked, and several were off limits even beyond the boorish Seventen. The patterns began to emerge, no matter how many people Rafe enraged, he always escaped miraculously. It was too much even for the young girl to believe. Not to mention, though she couldn’t read, she could count and their winnings never equaled their take. At first she suspected Rafe was skimming, but silently with the wide eyes of child she watched as ‘aunties’ and ‘uncles’ took portions in hustles they hadn’t worked. Staying up late one night while the family drank and threw bones she finally connected it; Rafe, the uncles, and the aunties were all Bad Brothers.

From that night on, Del threw herself into her role in each job. She had seen the camaraderie and wanted a piece for herself. It would be many years before she truly understand the underside of the business, but by then her loyalty was absolute.

As Rafe aged his scheme grew more complex. In the dry season 2716, he came up with a gambling racket that involved a number of tables with mechanism to jostle the dice after the cup was placed. With extraordinary frequency the springs in the tables jumped their housing. After paying the repair dues in three subsequent nights, Rafe dropped a small chest of iron tools in front of Del. By now the old confidence artist knew his daughter observed much more than most and now she had seen the repair completed thrice.
The first table took a midnight candle burned to its quick, but Del eventually fixed it.
