Physical Description

Image

Khy'Marah is characteristic of her race, if you were to believe her to be a wick. Lightly tanned skin and fiery auburn hair flowing down to her waist, often woven with braids or trinkets she has bought from the trading kints in Cellas Isles or Kingsway Markets. Due to a genetic glitch in her genes, her left eye is spring blue, whilst her right is summer green, a trait she had since her second birthday.

Her face is heart shaped, with a delicately shaped nose. Her eyes are almond-shaped and mischievous from under thick lashes. She varies her make up to suit her mood, but quite often she sports thick winged black eyeliner to bring out the vibrancy of her mismatched eyes. Her rich full lips are often painted in a gentle ocher. Her frame is athletic, her arms strong from years of drawing the bowstring and legs from running after prey.

She often wears her thick hair like a cascading waterfall of braids, dreadlocks or loose strands depending on her mood. When she is active, on the hunt, she will braid it back away from her face. Khy loves to wear beaded animal skin outfits that allow her freedom of movement, short leather skirts with leggings or fitted tops and breeches. If she needs to dress up, she will look for sweeping flowing skirts or dresses in a wick cut and vibrant colors. She has various piercings, which she wears or takes out depending on her mood or the setting.

Her voice is rich, thick with her original Bastian background, though she has lost any accent that she might have once had.

Personality

Image

She is a friendly woman, provided she can trust you to have her back. Sometimes she seems standoffish, but its mostly a side effect of her isolation from the city during her childhood.. She is angry about the galdori superiority, and will not hesitate to get actively involved in plans to topple their ivory towers. She treats others the way she wants to be treated, and has no sympathy for those who don't at least try to help themselves.

Not one to openly cause a confrontation, she will proactively intercept if she see's an injustice being done. She is a secret romantic at heart, but has not pursued any particular love interests. Due to her involvement with the Resistance, she spends most of her time refining her skills and ensuring what the Resistance needs, they get. She is not a reader, nor a writer, but she will drink you under the table or shoot an apple off your head from twenty yards away. Or both.

Preferably both!

Backstory

Born into the Theraldon family as Skye, on her fathers plantation within Bastia's outskirts, the infant was a blessing for the young couple, who doted over her. They dressed the baby in the frilliest dresses and had a fancy naming party for her when she was six months old. Everything seemed to be set up to make way for a new Theraldon heir, until her baby blue eyes began to form their lifetime coloring. As the first year and a half moved along, her parents would comment on her eyes. Were they blue? Were they green? It seemed to differentiate depending on how you looked at her or the angle of lighting. It was with sudden shock that the young couple finally realized they were starkly mismatched. Her father accused her mother of having a sordid affair with the wick plantation hand, to which the woman adamantly maintained her innocence. Seeking the help of a friend in the medical profession, they became convinced that instead of a wick, the child was most likely a passive. There would be no way to confirm till she came of age, but it would be an absolute stain on the Theraldon name should it come to pass. They had a reputation and a business to maintain. As such, her father took the toddler far up into Anaxas, as far as he could into the Nomadic Lands, and left the child to the elements and creatures that resided there. They would claim the young girl had died from a vicious case of influenza, and their medically trained friend would seal the deal with his falsified records.

And on they would live their lives, and produce more children far more suited to the Theraldon name. But that is another story.

Crying into the echoing forest around her, dressed in a simple green toddlers dress, the little girl knew hunger and cold. It wouldn't take long for her small body to succumb to the elements, and by then the scavengers would be brave enough to swoop in and take the tiny galdori. Except that luck strode past that day. A Blackhand witch, stalking her hunting grounds for garmon and shedding bucks came across the weak child, surprised by her discovery. Collecting the unconscious, shivering toddler in her arms, the witch took her back to her clan. Whilst the little girl was clearly not a wick, the clan weren't heartless. They tended to the toddler, caring for her and bringing her back from the edges of death. When she awoke, Skye screamed the kints down, petrified of the strangers that had taken her in. With patience, the witch that had found her soothed the child, coaxing her name from her in a childish mispronunciation; Khy. Given to the witch as a ward, the youngster was assigned a new name for her new life. One that incorporated the old and the new; Khy'Marah, Marah being the Deep Tek word for 'duality'.

Growing up under the guidance of her adoptive daoa, Khy was taught the way of the bow and the blade, learning how to hunt the beasts that lived on Cellas Isle. She was, by birth, not as strong or as fast as her wick-born peers, but her fighting spirit and determination saw her bloom into her own. By the time she was ten, the young lanky galdori was running the trails alongside her daoa. There was never any need to cast during her youth, and as such her tenth birthday came and went fieldless. As did her eleventh, twelth and thirteenth. It wasn't until halfway to her fourteenth birthday that Khy'Marah found herself in a position that forced her to try a spell from her daoa's Almanac. A healing spell, on her playmate. They'd roamed far from the campsite, and he'd taken a fall that left him unable to walk.

It was a shock to both of them to feel the rush of her field, surging bright and galdori strong. Stronger than most of the teenagers her age. The spell bent to her will in ways that were terrifying to both teenagers. She was galdori, and the mona recognized this even if she didn't. Khy's magic was too powerful, and for those who knew her true birth it was a sign that the time had come for her to move on from their place, afraid of the repercussions if the galdori overlords discovered her. Or, if she discovered herself. To others, it was seen as a bad omen and she was shunned.

Afraid of the new found power their adopted kinswoman had, the Blackhand Elders agreed the young woman needed to leave Cellas Isle, to forge her own path. Khy'Marah was lost, confused, and afraid. She knew nothing of the world beyond the Isle, except what the wicks had told her about the galdori. Oppressors, cruel in their supposed superiority, with a god-complex. Supplied with her bow and arrow, hunting knife and travelling pack, the teenager was accompanied by her adoptive daoa to make their way down to Dorhaven. Here, the two women forged a new life with the humans, nomadic wicks and galdori. Here, Khy'Marah saw the galdori in their true form. She witnessed their cruelty and their twisted sense of noble magics. Strange Blackhands on the outskirts, Khy and her daoa were treated poorly, their survival only possible from the hunting they did in Wrathwine Woods. In the year of her sixteenth birthday, Khy'Marah left the small kint they shared for a few days, chasing winter hingles for their lavish fur. When she returned, the witch that she had come to know as her mother had been arrested by the local galdori officers. Seventen they were called. Suspicion of salacious activity within something called the Resistance. Khy had no idea what they were talking about, but from that day forth she never saw the woman again.

Determined to understand more about the reason behind the witch's arrest and disappearance, Khy used her hunters skills to track down bits and pieces about the Resistance, eventually making her way into Vienda. Her field stood out like a sore thumb, and anyone related to the Freedom Fighters would quickly shut down any questions about it. Doors were shutting in her face every which way, until a woman with piercing blue eyes and raven locks took interest in her. Bringing the huntress to the curious tunnels under the city, the woman introduced herself as Alyssa Pierre. She questioned the girl; What exactly was she? Khy'Marah explained she was a Blackhand wick, and a hunter with knowledge in tracking. Curiosity captivated the woman, and she brought Khy'Marah into the fold under her tutelage. There were attempts to teach Khy'Marah the magic of her adoptive people, given the breadth of her field surely she was powerful, but the young woman was too afraid of becoming what her tribe had feared her to be--an omen of bad luck and downfall. Alyssa suspected her galdori heritage, but didn't pursue it. As far as Khy'Marah would continue to believe, and anyone that she encountered, she was a witch.

Eight years under Alyssa's watch, Khy learned the history of the Resistance and the cruelty of the galdori. Her skills in hunting gave her an advantage as a tracker or assassin. Where coin mattered, the false witch took herself into the wilderness to hunt for furs or food, selling it back in the Kingsway Markets or to the wicks around town.

Now, Jon Serro has been announced deceased and Alyssa has taken over leadership of the Resistance. Times in Vienda are tenser than ever, and the whispers underground suggest a change is on the rise. Khy'Marah is ready to take her place beside her fellow Freedom Fighters, and topple the sinister galdori.
