Appearance

Antranig, being from Gior, all but towers over most Anaxi galdor. He stands an impressive six feet and two inches, and is rather slender. He is rather conventionally handsome and has a kind face with a sharp nose and high cheekbones. His eyes are pink and soft. Having spent most of his life living in Anaxas, he has, over time, adopted a more Anaxi style of dress. His snow white hair is kept short and his facial hair is neatly trimmed. He dresses well, primarily in sharp suits in earth tones that he needs to get custom made due to his substantial height. Due to his poor eyesight, he wears a pair of geometric silver spectacles at all times. He does not wear much jewellery aside from small, understated studs in both his ears and a smooth ring made of jet on his right index finger. He speaks with a soft Gioran accent.

Personality

Antranig is a very organized individual, something that was instilled in him in his early childhood in Gior. He prefers things to be in their proper places, rules to be followed, and boundaries to be respected. Outwardly, this can make him seem like a rather rigid individual, but he is quick to relax around people and in places that he is familiar with. His Gioran upbringing can sometimes also lead to him being quite blunt, but he generally means well. He likes things to be simple and straightforward and is annoyed by gossip, which often gets in the way of the truth. He is a private person and prefers strangers to not stick their noses in his personal business, but is otherwise quite kind, almost to a fault. He will do his best to help others when asked. He has found parenthood to be quite a rewarding pursuit, despite the steep learning curve.

As far as racial relations, he maintains the Gioran view of passives, and is generally as kind to them as he would be to most anyone else. Though he has lived in mixed-race company for most of his life, he is still never sure what to make of wicks or humans. He tends to regard them with cautious acceptance and is mostly content to just let them go about their business, so long as it doesn’t interfere with his. He holds no real ill-will towards people of any race, unless given a personal reason to.

Antra has no love lost for his country of origin, and considers Anaxas his true home. He maintains no ties to Gior, though he sometimes misses the spectacle of it, especially the temple.

History

Antranig was born the second child to the Bornas, a small but reasonably well-off family, in the summer of 2682 in Qrieth. When he was young, it was decided that he would be sent to Anaxas to study at Brunnhold. His elder sister was, of course, set to inherit the family, so he was sent where he could learn both magic and culture to make himself more appealing and worldly, with the eventual goal of making him a nice husband to be married off.

However, his parents’ plan backfired when he found he quite enjoyed Anaxas, most notably the freedom it offered in stark contrast to the highly structured and ritualized culture he had been born into. While he had an appreciation for where he had come from, he enjoyed being able to do things without having to perform some sort of elaborate ritual beforehand. Life was simpler, easier. In fact, he enjoyed Anaxas so much, he elected to remain there after he had graduated, much to the annoyance of his mother. Over the years, his family tried a number of ways to get him to — in their words — “come to his senses” and return to Gior, and stopped just short of physically coming to Anaxas and dragging him back. He discovered he had a love, and knack, for procuring rare books, and built a business out of it in Vienda.

His simple life was abruptly turned upside down in his early 20s, following an accident that claimed the lives of his mother, father, and sister. Being the only remaining member of his family and having no desire to return to Gior, Antra promptly liquidated the entire estate his parents had left behind in an effort to discourage any opportunistic individuals from finishing what fate had started. He returned home to Anaxas, and used the money he had gained to grow his business, throwing himself quite fully into growing his reputation and network of contacts as a way of coping with his loss. It was through his business of finding and selling rare books that he met his future wife, a Viendan socialite by the name of Morena Sauvageot. The two were married when Antranig was 26, and roughly a year later welcomed their first child, a healthy baby boy they named Taniel. Antra loved them both dearly, and was happy to have such a bright spot in his life after losing his family.

Unfortunately, things would not stay bright and perfect for very long. Morena was accustomed to a much grander life than the humble one Antra’s position and income offered her. Though she had loved him, she did not care for the modest life that he seemed intent to live. She would often go alone to parties and balls while leaving Antra to care for their son alone, or sometimes would leave Taniel in the care of a sitter if her husband was busy. Antra and Morena butted heads over this on many occasions, but her dalliances only increased in frequency over time.

One night, when Taniel was roughly two years old, Antra returned home from an appointment and found that Morena had, once again, gone off cavorting with her high society friends. At least, that was what he thought, until the sitter that Morena had hired handed him a letter she had left. The letter detailed an ongoing affair she had been having with a wealthy Bastian painter. He had entreated her to return to Bastia with him when he left Vienda. She had accepted his offer, and abandoned her family.

The scandal broke the following day. The artist in question, who had been engaged to another prominent socialite until taking off with Antranig’s wife, had left a similar note with his betrothed, and word spread fast. Antra, largely being framed as the suffering, devoted husband, was mostly spared the fall from social graces, but was not spared the endless gossip and prying questions from strangers and former friends alike. Not helping matters were his in-laws, who were so mortified at the idea that their daughter would abandon her family that they became convinced Antra had done something to drive her off, despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary.

Antranig quickly grew exhausted of the environment in Vienda, particularly after signed and notarized divorce papers arrived at his door. Morena had evidently gotten her new beau to pay for the process, a small kindness in the grand scheme of things. She also thankfully had elected to leave the entirety of their marital assets and sole custody of Taniel to Antranig. Antra moved himself and his son to Brunnhold shortly after the divorce was finalized, and set up a shop in the Peregrin district, where he sells rare books as well as his services in locating and appraising them. He has spent the nearly eight years since growing his business and being a devoted father. He has no contact with his ex-in-laws and prefers it that way, quite content to live a quiet life alone with his son and their bander.
