Polk has a very fresh and youthful face, and his skin is noticeably tanned from years of frequent outdoor travelling. He keeps his chestnut brown beard and hair well-groomed. His eyes are a steely grey-blue, but the rest of his face is surprisingly ordinary. He stands at 6'2" and is of an average build. He is in considerably good shape all around, but is not exceptionally strong, fast, or agile. In the center of his chest is the scarred remnants of a stag head that was carved into him at a young age.
Polk's personality has been heavily influenced by his older friend and travelling companion Taos, whether either of them know it or not. Polk tries to maintain some level of seriousness with his trade, but frequently resorts to humor in times of great stress or duress. Although Polk's side job of being paid muscle commonly ends up having him resort to violence, he is a soft-hearted soul.
Polk's experience with humans was very brief and troubling, leaving him with a layer of natural distrust for his own race. Polk knows very little of the Galdori, and simply thinks they come off as snobbish. With the Wicks, however, Polk feels very at home with the nomadic Wick tribes of the world.
Polk's view is very one-sided and naive on the oppression of Humans and Wicks, and has driven him to feel as if he is obligated to put an end to the injustice of the Galdori.
Francis was born in Dorhaven to a zealous, fanatical family who devoted their lives to Naulas in favor to total Circlism. His family treated him well as a young child, and did not thrust him into their religious views until the age of 5, when they carved the stag head of Naulas into his chest to show his devotion and willingness to serve and sacrifice.
Although seeming insane to someone peering in from the outside, Francis' family was still clear-minded and rational. By serving Naulas and sacrificing as much as they can in this life, they believe they will have a better shot at reincarnating as the superior race, The Galdori. They believe strongly that all humans have been born into this race as a severe punishment for past mistakes and failures. The only way to reconcile, in their thought, is by using this lifetime to correct the past and ensure a better future.
At the age of 6, after a year of service and indoctrination, Francis' family informed him that they had done enough to correct their past mistakes, and were ready to move on to their better, and now deserved, lives. His family planned to have one last feast in honor of Naulas, with all of the food and drink poisoned. Francis was so excited that he ran into town to notify everyone who would listen that he was finally being granted his gift of reincarnation tonight, and fate had it that Taos Alo was the first person Francis told this to; the wick having traveled into Dorhaven for supplies for his tribe. The now concerned Taos immediately questioned the young boy to confirm his suspicions of a mass suicide, and then forcefully took the boy to his tribe.
Francis was at first very resistant and hateful towards his new captor and guardian, along with the rest of the tribe. During the years Francis slowly learned and realized with the help of the tribe that he was a victim of indoctrination and mind control, and he then learned to thank the tribe for saving him from certain death. Once he had accepted the tribe as his new family, Taos humorously named him Polk, and never told Francis the meaning behind it.
After a few more years, Taos' frustration for his father and the tribe grew, and he decided to leave the tribe on his own to forge his own future. Polk quickly followed, and was excited at the thought of going city to city to see the sights and all of the people he had never gotten to meet. Polk quickly learned he had a knack for convincing people his stolen goods were not, indeed, stolen. Taos quickly grew to appreciate this skill, and the duo soon realized their potential to succeed in the criminal underworld. With Polk's natural strength and good wit, and Taos' knack for persuading and misleading, the group struck out to make their own underground empire.
