Plot Ideas
PLOT NOTES
  • Best Served Cold: Gale is left a threat, that unless they perform tasks when presented to them there will be consequences. It is heavily implied that this third party knows things Gale would rather keep secret, and is not afraid to ruin the livelihood of the metal smith. To make it worse, they make threats to reveal everything should the resistance or the seventeen get involved. To begin with Gale obeys the simple requests, but refusing on one occasion results in the trashing of the forge. With the requests escalating, the Gunsmith has no choice but to find allies and get revenge on this new enemy.
  • Gunpowder Plot: An exploration of the darker side of the Resistance, in an attempt to upset the status quo. The “gunpowder plot” is the selecting of a suitable target to upset the Galdori economy, infiltrating it, forming a plan and effectively destroying it. Of course, actual gunpowder may not actually be used; a more inventive and commonly available material may be used instead.

Relationships
PLOT NOTES

Family

Beyond immediate family, Gale has relatives they are estranged from and can be picked up as desired. There is room for uncles, aunts and cousins from both sides of the family who do not realise their allegiance or what they can make.

Beckett "Gunner" Saunders (NPC) - Father of Gale, Born 2658, died 2713 aged 55. Was one of the early inventors of the pistol and a member of the dubbed "Dirty Dozen". He was 41 when Gale was born.
Yelenn (NPC) - Mother of Gale, died 2698 after giving birth to Gale. Thought to be mid to late twenties at death.
Rhys Valentin (PC) - Half-Brother of Gale through their mother. While they have met, Gale is presently fishing for information on him in order to confirm her thoughts. Theypresently thinks of him as an idiot.

Friends

“Civilians” is used loosely here - it would be more specifically "non-resistance". Much like her family, there is also likely friends who know her – but not what they fights for. As such, there is a chance for drama with her double life existence (which I would very much like to exploit). There is also room for frequent customers who may look into her metalworking business (but that is more to serve as a hook in than anything else).

Friends:
Peter "Teeter" Henderson - Old family friend of Beckett and later Gale. A resistance member and one of the very few who know her identity. His current location is unknown.

Romance

There is always potential – on the basis that people can get past the fact that Gale tends to appear and behave more like a guy. As such, there is room for a lot of confusion for all parties involved while this particular Cadet exist both in and out the closet.

Antagonists

Gale presently does not have any antagonists or rivals.

Allies

People who are onside of Gale's agenda but might not be a friend. Normally people in the resistance.
Jon Serro (NPC) - Current leader of the resistance. While Gale respects him or more correctly his charisma, they are wary of him and his methods. As such they have a tendency to question everything he does and has a high level of mistrust in regards to him. They effectively only follows him due to the current shared ideals.

IC Research and Developent
PLOT NOTES

Liberator | No. 1

Constructed in: The Gunsmith, ROALIS 2718
OOC Inspiration: Colt Paterson revolver with a hammer to ensure safety and no unintentional discharging.
Weight: 2 lb 16 oz
Length: Twelve Inches / 30.5 cm
Barrel length: Six and a half inches / 16.5 cm
Rifled?: Yes.
Caliber: 0.35 inch / 9mm
Muzzle Velocity: 900ft/s
Effective range: 54 yards / 50 meters
Feed system: Six-round cylinder
Loading:The model is unusual as it involves the use of Gale's dubbed "caps" or "Percussion Caps" in order to fire. In order to load the firearm the chamber must be unscrewed from the shaft, the priming caps pushed into the back of the cylinder. The gunpowder is then packed down each cylinder, compressed behind a metal shot. The cylinder is then reloaded back into the gun frame and the shaft screwed back in (ooc note, when developed, paper cartridges could be used here).
Firing: Hammer must be pulled back, then trigger is pulled. Simply pulling the trigger will result in nothing firing.
Other: Made from steel and treated with an flux to protect it from rusting. Grip is made from wood. The barrel, cylinder and grip can be removed from the main frame by unscrewing it. Can fire lead and steel shots.

Percussion Cap | No. 1

Constructed in: The Gunsmith, ROALIS 2718
OOC Inspiration: Any Early percussion cap
Function: To use a firearm without flint.
Primary device: Liberator, other revolvers and modified single shot firearms
Description: made from very thin sheet copper and consisting of two parts; the outer is shaped into a small cup with a lip in its base that is big enough to fit snuggly into the back of a chamber. The inside of the cup is then tightly filled with a powder made from strike anywhere matches, before a small disc of copper is pressed down onto the inside of the cup and sealing it in place. The short name is 'Drum' Cap.
How it works: The metal is thin enough that when struck with the hammer it will force the copper to rupture, the force igniting the powder, which then ignites the gunpowder within the chamber.

Unamed| No. 1

Constructed in: The Gunsmith, ROALIS 2718
OOC Inspiration: Colt Paterson revolver with a hammer to ensure safety and no unintentional discharging.
Weight: 2 lb
Length: Nine Inches
Barrel length: Three and a half inches
Rifled?: Yes.
Caliber: 0.35 inch / 9mm
Muzzle Velocity: 900ft/s
Effective range: 46 yards /
Feed system: Six-round cylinder
Loading: A firearm based upon the Liberator and improved on the mistakes of its predecessor. As such it is shorter and lighter, though at the cost of a decreased range. The parts also move more smoothly. It uses the "caps" or "Percussion Caps" in order to fire. In order to load the firearm the chamber must be unscrewed from the shaft, the priming caps pushed into the back of the cylinder. The gunpowder is then packed down each cylinder, compressed behind a metal shot. The cylinder is then reloaded back into the gun frame and the shaft screwed back in.

Paper Cartridge | No. 1

Constructed in: Mastering the Load, YARIS 2718
OOC Inspiration: Various sources. Primarily early paper cartridges.
Function: To allow quicker loading, while originally for liberator they resulted in actually being better for single shot and larger chambered devices.
Primary device: Single shot percussion caps
Description: Made from thin paper, a percussion cap and a shot, the paper is lubricated in tallow, brought around the base of the cap and then loaded with gunpowder. The shot is put into place, the rest of the paper tightly wrapped around and smothered in more tallow before left to cool.
How it works: The gunpowder is ignited as the paper burns alongside the fat. By loading it all in as one piece, it keeps the powder dry and sealed from the elements. However, the burned fat has a tendency to melt so it is not good for pieces with complex parts, and those of a single shot nature are recommended to be cleaned after use.

Brass Cartridge | No. 1

Constructed in: Mastering the Load, YARIS 2718
OOC Inspiration: Various sources. Primarily early cartridges.
Function: To allow quicker loading of the liberator specifically
Primary device: Liberator
Description: Made from thin, drawn, brass tubing, a percussion cap No.1 is pinched and placed into the bottom of oneside of the tubing. The cartridge is then loaded up with gunpowder and topped with a lead shot. To keep it in place, the brass is then crimped around the base of the shot. Unlike loading shot and powder on the field, these are pre-made for quick loading in the field. They are in the early prototype stage.
How it works: Extending on from what has been discovered by the paper cartridges, Gale found that the materials used had a tendency to snare up the mechanics of liberator. As such, they took the current idea and applied something harder that would not burn, and could withstand the force of the gunpowder shot. The percussion cap is again struck, the gunpowder ignited and the force pushes the shot out from the end of the chamber.

Combat (Firearms): Beginner - Gale knows how to load firearms and the amount of powder needed to be put into them in order for them to fire. The aim however is terrible.

Combat (Blades): Beginner - Gale knows how to not stab themselves and sometimes can hit others. Primarily focuses on knives, daggers, machetes, and "short" swords.

Profession (Metalworker): Expert - Definition: someone who works metal (especially by hammering it when it is hot and malleable), Synonym with Smith. Metalworking: is any process that manipulates metal to produce a product. - Gale can shape, join and understand enough about metals and their behaviours to manipulate them into a desired shape. It serves as a catch-all that covers a variety of techniques which can involve forging, smelting, founding and filing. Examples of products include, tools, kitchenware, tableware, jewellery and weapons. It should be noted that Gale is far from a weapons specialist, so while they could comfortably make axe heads, hammers, knives, daggers and shorter blades they would not have the capability to make more refined weaponry such as rapiers, curved swords such as scimitars and its relatives, longswords or any other blade that would require the skills of a bladesmith. They are however, open to experimentation and will attempt to create different pieces. They are also capable of producing more delicate and ornate pieces that other metal workers would struggle with creating.

Profession (Gunsmith): Proficient - Definition: one who designs, makes, or repairs small firearms. - Gale knows how to create firearms that are functional and work most of the time. Also knows how to safely construct gunpowder and how the firing mechanisms work. Capable of doing modifications and changes to a firearm, and renewing finishes on weapons. As such, Gale is capable of working on highly precise detail to ensure it works and is safe for use. Occasionally also experiments with different designs and materials.

Profession (Resistance): Beginner - Gale is and has been involved in the resistance for years.

Profession (Inventing): Proficient - Gale has begun to understand the process of developing and inventing new devices

Quirks and Features
PLOT NOTES
Accent: Gale's accent and speech pattern is based around the Highland English dialect. As such, some voiceless stop consonants are softer to near absent in sounds, where as voiced consonants tend to become softer (Whatever becomes Whateffer), where "j" may become "tch" sounding. Additionally H may be dropped in some case all together. Grammar is also an issue, though this is more so when spoken instead of written; "I can see you" becomes "I'm seeing you" and the addition of "after" may instead be used to represent something happened in the past tense.

Behavior: Gale has several masculine traits they adopt in social situations. Such behaviors include but are not limited to: Independence, Stoicism/Emotional Restraint, Assertiveness, Competitiveness (In environments involving intellect) and Toughness.

Fidgeting hands: Gale's hands are constantly fidgeting, it is not uncommon for them to be playing with buttons, a thread or something - if not working.

Identity: While Gale recognizes they are female, they would identify more as a "They".

Literacy: Gale is literate and is very capable with words. However, larger more complicated words may instead be pronounced phonetically instead of correctly due to simply not knowing how to say them (or not being taught otherwise). For example "Clergy" may be pronounced as "Kl-er-ge" with a particular harshness on the 'K'.

Personality type: based on the 16 personalities, Gale is a ISTJ: Logistician

Resistance: Gale is an active member in the Resistance under the alias “Artful”. A large collection of her goals therefore coincide with the long-term goals of the resistance: To take power out of the hands of the Galdori. Gale specifically however currently works as an ear to the ground and an obtainer (or more specifically maker) or goods. More secretly however she works under the second alias of "Gunner", as a developer and firearm manufacturing for the Freedom Fighters. As Gale has been essentially born and bred resistance, she has been among them for quite a while – so there is plenty of room for old acquaintances, friends and people she knows of all ages. Gale is currently unaligned with a cell, but will happily help out those who are local to Vienda and ask for her aid. In the long term however, Gale is looking to join a cell to work out of and allies to help with jobs.

Smoker: Though is not yet an active smoker, Gale would be considered "casual".

Best Served Cold
a plotline track
premise
It is said that Revenge is best served cold. And that's the only thing Gale will have in mind by the end of it all.
WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE. WE KNOW WHAT YOU CAN DO.
IF YOU WISH TO KEEP YOUR LITTLE HALF-LIFE SECRET, THEN YOU WILL DO AS WE REQUEST.
OUR WORD IS NOW YOUR LAW, IT WILL BE THE ONLY THING YOU CARE FOR IN THIS WORLD.
ASK YOUR 'FRIENDS' FOR HELP, OR CRY TO THE SEVENTEN AND WE WILL KNOW AND WE WILL REVEAL THE TRUTH.
REFUSE, AND THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES. CONTINUOUS REFUSAL WILL RESULT IN HARSHER PUNISHMENT.
OBEY, AND WE WILL BE MERCIFUL TO YOUR EXISTENCE FOR ANOTHER DAY.
On the 24th Yaris 2718, Gale received a letter - unsigned but by someone with heavy implication that they knew who she was. To begin with the Gunsmith thought little of the threat, but by the 29th of Yaris they would come to the rapid realisation the threat was very real - even over the smallest of set tasks. The course of the riots gives the smith some leeway, a momentary respite for another stressful situation. By the time season calmed, the promises returned. Appeasement lead to escalation, in turn inevitably pushing Gale into action other than doing their bidding and getting into trouble on their behalf.
acts
This will be broken down into three acts:

Act 1

Non-Optional Compliance
Gale is given seemingly simple tasks at first. Collect said object and deliver to a drop off location; receive and hold onto a package until collected. But these begin to escalate - find a key for x place, steal y object. These climb into areas such as - break into a home and steal, attack a designated target and give 'us' the guns you made for the resistance. Throughout, Gale becomes more familiar with who the antagonists are.

Act 2

Consequences of Resistance
There are two key parts that run parallel to each other.
  1. Gale refuses two of the tasks: the first time results in the overturning of the forge, causing disruption to her work and livelihood. The second time when the tasks escalates once more results in the elimination of another resistance member. This serves as Gale's major turning point.
  2. Gale begins trying to find out more of the group in question - starting with the capture and shakedown of one of the task givers. Cue, investigation mode and working out what they were planning.

Act 3

Best Served Cold
Everything is brought to ahead to a final showdown (and maybe the irony of being fired at by their own weaponry).
tasks

Deliver/Receive a package: Gale gains a delivery and has to wait for someone else to collect (Smuggling/Transport)
Breaking and Copying: Gale has to break into merchant warehouse and take copies the logs (Fraud/Forgery).
Demands of Firearms: Gale is told to give over the firearms being made for the resistance.
Commit Arson: Gale is told to set a building on fire.
Attack a target: Gale is told to assault someone or start a fight.
Old Rose Harbour: As it is only a two and a half day journey away on the steam ferry, Gale receives a task to go and collect a package from ORH. This takes up a total of ten days of time (Dentis 29 to 39) by the time Gale travels there, locates the pick up site, gets the package and gets onto their return journey.
work in progress
Still to work out: The main antagonists - who are they and what is their agenda? Who can Gale turn to for aid? Duration of this arc - one IC month or several? What tasks is Gale going to be given?

When the last of us will disappear
Like shadows into the night
The broken ones, the fighting sons
Of ignorance
